I was born in the Netherlands and graduated in medicine from the Erasmus University, Rotterdam in 1986. I worked as a junior doctor in Utrecht, Amsterdam and Hilversum for four years before commencing Orthopaedic training in Antwerp, Belgium. I was fortunate to be trained by Professor Verstreken and Professor Martens in Antwerp, with an emphasis on knee surgery. Part of my training was spent in Melbourne, Australia where I gained invaluable experience in orthopaedic trauma.
I have more than 22 years experience as a doctor and have been an orthopaedic surgeon since 1996. I worked as a Consultant in Orthopaedics and Trauma at the University Hospital Groningen, situated in the north of Holland, before coming to Bury St Edmunds in 2001.
I specialise in sports injuries and degenerative problems of the knee with a particular interest in cruciate ligament surgery, arthroscopic surgery, total knee replacement, uni-compartmental knee replacement (replacement of half of the knee) and knee revision surgery.
I also have an interest in foot and ankle surgery such as bunion (hallux valgus) correction, toe corrections, ankle fusion (arthrodesis) and achilles tendon reconstructions.
I have a keen interest in trauma surgery and post-traumatic reconstructions.
